PERFORMANCE RIGHTS

License terms

These are the terms you accept when you buy an instant license or request a free classroom license on this site. Each license PDF repeats the version you accepted. Anything outside these terms, including Fractl Theatre™ configurations, professional productions, recordings and streaming, is licensed by separate written agreement.

Nonprofessional Performance License

Version NP-1.0 (12 October 2026)

1. Grant

The Author grants the Licensee a nonexclusive, nontransferable license to present live, nonprofessional stage performances of the Play, as written, at the Venue, on the dates and for the number of performances stated in this license, for audiences of no more than the stated number of seats per performance, within the United States.

"Nonprofessional" means a production by a community, amateur, school, college or university theatre or similar group in which the performers are not engaged under a professional union contract (such as Actors' Equity). Admission may be charged.

2. Fee

The Licensee has paid the fee shown in this license in advance. The fee is a per-performance royalty for the performances licensed. Any additional performance, a change of venue, or a larger audience requires a new or amended license before that performance takes place.

3. The text

The Play must be performed as written. No changes, cuts, additions, rewrites, changes of gender, period or setting, or alterations to the title may be made without the Author's prior written permission. Customary minor adjustments for staging, such as small prop or blocking choices, are not alterations of the text.

4. Recording and distribution

No part of any performance may be recorded, filmed, photographed for distribution, streamed, broadcast or transmitted by any means, live or recorded, without the Author's prior written permission. Still photographs for the Licensee's own publicity and archive are permitted. The script may not be published, posted online, sold or shared beyond the production's cast, crew and staff.

5. Scripts

Purchasing this license does not include printed scripts. The Author will provide a production script by email. The Licensee may make only as many copies as the cast, crew and production staff need, and must not distribute them further. This license does not transfer any copyright in the Play, which remains with the Author.

6. Credit

The Author must be credited as "by Edgar Chisholm" wherever the title of the Play appears in programs, posters, flyers, websites, social media and other publicity for the production, in type no less than one half the size of the title. Programs must include the line: "Produced by special arrangement with Edgar Chisholm. www.edgarchisholm.com".

7. Cancellation and refunds

If the Licensee cancels in writing before the first licensed performance, the Author will refund the fee, less any payment processing fees that are not returned to the Author. No refund is due for performances that have taken place. The Author may cancel this license before the first performance, with a full refund, if the Play becomes unavailable because of a prior commitment; the Author is not otherwise liable for the cancellation.

8. Termination

This license ends automatically if the Licensee breaks any of its terms. Any performance given after termination, or beyond the scope of this license, is unlicensed.

9. Authority and acceptance

The person accepting this license confirms that they are at least 18 years old and are authorized to accept it on behalf of the Licensee. This license was accepted electronically by typed signature; it is as binding as a signed paper agreement.

10. General

This license is the entire agreement between the parties about these performances. It is governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey. If any term is unenforceable, the rest of the license remains in effect. The Author reserves all rights not expressly granted.

Free Classroom License

Version CL-1.0 (12 October 2026)

1. Grant

The Author grants the Licensee, free of charge, a nonexclusive, nontransferable license to read, rehearse and present the Play for educational purposes within the named school, for up to three presentations within ninety days of the start date shown in this license.

2. Audience and admission

Presentations may be given only to students, faculty, staff and the families of students, in a classroom or on school premises. No admission may be charged, no donations may be requested in exchange for attendance, and the presentations may not be advertised to the general public. A public or ticketed production requires a separate performance license.

3. The text

The Play must be presented as written. Teachers may excerpt scenes for classroom study and rehearsal. No rewritten or adapted version may be presented or shared without the Author's prior written permission.

4. Recording and copies

No presentation may be recorded, streamed, broadcast or posted online, except a private recording kept by the teacher for grading and deleted at the end of the school term. Copies of the script may be made only for the students and staff taking part, and may not be distributed further.

5. Credit

Any program or announcement must credit the Play as "by Edgar Chisholm".

6. Verification

This license is issued to the named teacher on the basis of a verified school email address or the Author's review. The teacher confirms that they teach or work at the named school and accept these terms on its behalf.

7. General

This license ends automatically if any of its terms are broken. It is governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey. The Author reserves all rights not expressly granted. Copyright in the Play remains with the Author.
